Global Leader in CPO Connectivity Solutions Partners with Broadcom to Drive Next-Generation High-Speed Data Center Networks
May 14, 2025 – Twinstar Technologies Co., Ltd., a leading global provider of co-packaged optics (CPO) connectivity solutions, has announced a significant achievement: the cumulative shipment volume of its Fiber-to-Chip passive pluggable CPO optical connection components, developed in collaboration with Broadcom, has surpassed 10,000 units. This milestone underscores the strong, ongoing technological partnership between the two companies and their critical role in revolutionizing optical interconnect technology for high-speed data centers.
This accomplishment not only highlights the growing potential of CPO technology in next-generation switches but also contributes to the rapid evolution of hyperscale data centers and the infrastructure needed to support artificial intelligence (AI) computing at scale.
A Five-Year Collaboration in Shaping New CPO Standards
Twinstar and Broadcom have been strategic partners for over a decade, with a strong focus on advancing optical interconnection solutions. Since 2020, their collaboration has centered around the development of a passive pluggable optical connection solution that seamlessly integrates with Broadcom's CPO architecture. This technology has already been deployed in Broadcom's 51.2-Tbps TH5-Bailly CPO system.
Twinstar has driven significant advances in industry available technologies, achieving submicron-level passive pluggable features and highly reliable optical coupling. The development process included extensive optical simulations, tolerance analysis, and reliability stress testing—all while maintaining cost-effectiveness.
After five years of research and development, Twinstar is the first supplier in the industry to successfully pass the full life cycle verification of TH5-Bailly CPO switches. This positions Twinstar’s pluggable optical connectivity cables as a core component of Broadcom’s leading-edge, ultra-high-density traffic-switching systems.
Celebrating 10,000 Units: A Major Industry Milestone
As of April 30, 2025, Twinstar has shipped over 10,000 CPO cables, marking a pivotal moment in the widespread adoption of CPO technology. Jessica Zhuang, Chairman of Twinstar Board, commented: “The shipment of 10,000 units represents more than just a numerical milestone -- it is a testament to the market's recognition of CPO technology’s reliability and cost-efficiency. From the outset, our collaboration with Broadcom has been about venturing into uncharted technological territory. We are at the forefront developing leading edge technologies for detachable CPO cables, transforming them from lab prototypes into essential components for the commercial upgrading of data center networks.”
Driving the Future of Data Center Technology
Looking ahead, Twinstar is intensifying efforts to develop the next-generation of CPO optical cables. These products are designed to further enhance packaging density, boost performance, and improve operational convenience. These innovations are poised to meet the demands for ultra-high bandwidth and ultra-low latency in AI training clusters and large-scale data centers.
New prototype products are currently in the testing and verification phase, with an official release slated for 2026.
Hari Potluri, Head of Optical Connectivity for Broadcom's Optical Systems Division, added: “Twinstar continues to be an important partner in our CPO ecosystem. Together, we have driven innovation in detachable connectivity solutions, providing the critical infrastructure needed for the transformation of switch architectures. We look forward to accelerating the global adoption of CPO technology in the years to come.”
Market Impact and Industry Growth
As demand for AI-driven applications and large-scale computing power continues to soar, CPO technology is emerging as the preferred solution for ultra-high-speed network devices, thanks to its superior energy efficiency. Industry analysts at CIR project that the global CPO market will exceed $5.5 billion by 2027. Twinstar’s CPO cables are set to play a pivotal role in the data centers of the world’s leading cloud service providers and telecommunications operators, with widespread deployment expected across North America, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region.
