China Unicom and Huawei jointly Announce Millimeter Wave Innovation Achievements
ICC Information News -- Recently, at the 5G-A Action Plan Release Conference held by China Unicom, China Unicom and Huawei jointly unveiled the innovative achievements of their 5G-A millimeter wave project, lighting up the Ice Festival in Harbin with cutting-edge technology. By leveraging millimeter waves to build a 10-gigabit enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) network and highly reliable low-altitude economy connectivity, they demonstrated new services in areas such as 8K video broadcasting, low-altitude economy, and high-low frequency coordination. This provided an exceptional network experience for audiences, athletes, and media, laying a solid technological foundation for the development of the low-altitude economy.
In the Harbin Ice Hockey Arena, Heilongjiang Unicom, in collaboration with Huawei, deployed a 5G-A 10-gigabit network based on millimeter wave and C-Band 3CC (three-carrier aggregation). Through the synergy of millimeter wave and Sub-6GHz (below 6GHz 5G bands), users experienced unprecedented speed. During actual testing, peak rates surpassed 10Gbps, allowing a 10GB ultra-large file to be downloaded in just 10 seconds. The 10-gigabit network enabled smooth playback of multiple HD live streams, with 8K broadcasts offering stunning visual experiences. Even with tens of thousands of people accessing the network simultaneously, it ensured smooth viewing of 1080p HD videos, providing robust network support for the efficient operation of the event.
The potential of millimeter wave technology was not only showcased within the venue but also demonstrated significant promise in the low-altitude economy sector. By achieving three-dimensional low-altitude coverage with millimeter waves, it simultaneously provided communication networks for both ground and low-altitude applications. On-site China Unicom staff even received delivery of milk tea via drone, showcasing the practical application of these technologies. These breakthroughs will accelerate the rapid development of innovative businesses such as low-altitude logistics, sightseeing, and transportation, injecting new momentum into the digital economy.
Mr. Li Jie, President of Huawei's 5G & LTE TDD Domain, commented, "The breakthrough in 5G-A millimeter wave technology has opened up new possibilities for us. Through innovations like high-low frequency collaborative networking and millimeter wave low-altitude three-dimensional coverage, we have not only improved network performance but also provided technical support for sectors like event economy and low-altitude economy. We look forward to continuing our cooperation with China Unicom to promote the application of millimeter wave technology across more scenarios and industries, creating even greater value."
