Jiangsu Mobile and ZTE Pilot 50G PON Mini Module on Live Network

ICC Information News -- Recently, Nanjing Branch of Jiangsu Mobile, in partnership with ZTE Corporation, successfully completed the industry’s first live network pilot of a 50G PON symmetrical miniaturized optical module solution. This pilot provides valuable real-world demonstration for the commercial deployment of high-density 50G PON solutions.

During this pilot, the OLT side utilized ZTE’s latest 50G PON symmetrical miniaturized optical module, which is based on SFP-DD compact design and supports full-rate ONU access across three generations and five modes. Compared to QSFP modules, the SFP-DD miniaturized optical module reduces volume by 30%, while ZTE has enhanced the thermal performance of the SFP-DD module by 25% through several patented technologies. The solution not only maintains compatibility with existing ONU equipment, ensuring a smooth evolution of network construction and protecting network investment, but it also effectively reduces the space occupied by devices, increases system integration, and offers technical assurance for network optimization and resource conservation.

At the pilot site, network bandwidth speed tests were conducted using a computer with a 10-gigabit interface, achieving a measured rate of up to 9.8 Gbps, satisfying users' demand for large bandwidth and high stability. This technology application not only provides home users with faster and more stable network connections but also delivers efficient data transmission capabilities for government and enterprise users, promoting the process of digital transformation.

The successful completion of this live network pilot verifies the gradual maturity of the 50G PON symmetrical miniaturized optical module scheme, further advancing 50G PON towards higher density and performance. It represents a critical milestone in the commercialization process of 50G PON.
