Total Investment of 4.5 Billion Yuan! ByteDance's Taihang Computing Center Phase II Land Use Plan Approved
ICC Information News -- According to the Shanxi government service platform, the construction land use permit for Phase II of the Volcengine Taihang Computing Center was approved on January 13, 2025, with a total investment reaching 4.5 billion yuan. This marks a significant increase from the Phase I project that commenced construction in May 2023 with an investment of 2.8 billion yuan.
Located in Guangling county, the construction entity is Volcengine (Datong) Technology Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of ByteDance (Douyin Group). The center plans to house 15,604 server racks with a power capacity of 12kW each and 510 network racks, corresponding to a power rating of 187MW (estimated total infrastructure power capacity of 374MW).
The project spans a total area of 205,013.47 square meters (approximately 307.5 acres), with a total construction area of 207,256.77 square meters. It plans to construct six two-story data center buildings above ground, one six-story comprehensive building, four diesel generator buildings, two guard houses, as well as underground facilities including production water tanks, wastewater collection tanks, rainwater retention ponds, buried oil tanks, containerized modular sewage treatment facilities, and a 220kW substation.
