New collaboration from Turkcell and Ericsson on the future capacity needs of mobile backhaul
Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) and Turkcell have announced a collaboration to explore new spectrum solutions that will enhance mobile backhaul capacity for technologies such as 5G and 6G. Part of this collaboration is Ericsson and Turkcell successfully trialing a W-Band solution, which increases the spectrum by 1.5 times in addition to the existing E-band. By opening up the W-band, the available high-performance backhaul spectrum will be more than doubled.
The W-band transport trial with Ericsson shows that Turkcell will have the potential to significantly boost mobile backhaul capacity, thus presenting opportunities to further enhance customer experiences in data-heavy connections and use cases. A W-band solution opens spectrum beyond 100GHz and enables up to 100 Gbps transport capacities. This will allow Turkcell to offer better services at an optimized cost level, creating greater value for users, and unlocking new business and revenue opportunities.
In addition to increased capacity and improved customer experience, millimeter Wave (mmWave) bands such as the W-Band (92 – 114.5 GHz) will help reduce energy consumption and carbon footprint making it a sustainable solution for the future. These mmWave bands will increase the available backhaul spectrum, making it easier for Turkcell to provide high performance mobile broadband services, from 4G to 5G and beyond.
Prof. Dr. Vehbi Ça?r? Güngör, VP Network Technologies of Turkcell says: “At Turkcell, we are always pushing the boundaries of innovation and excellence. Our partnership with Ericsson on the W-Band transport trial is a major step forward in meeting the ever-increasing demand for mobile backhaul capacity. With this, we are not only enhancing our customers' experiences but also creating new business opportunities and driving revenue growth.”
I??l Yalç?n, Head of Ericsson Türkiye says: “This partnership demonstrates our commitment to providing cutting-edge solutions that drive efficiency and sustainability while delivering better experiences for our customers. We consider the W-Band solution as a game-changer that will unlock spectrum resources beyond 100GHz to meet the growing demand for broadband services. We look forward to working with Turkcell to bring innovative W-Band transport solutions to the market and drive the evolution of 5G and beyond.”
Ericsson has been a supplier of mobile communication systems to Turkcell since 1994 and is committed to offering products and solutions that meet Turkcell's present and future business and technical requirements. As the W-band deployment matures, Ericsson is set to supply equipment, test demos, and use cases, and conduct performance assessments.
